Painting
Classes:
Paint Impressions
of the Maine Coast and Countryside.
Join
Rick for classes exploring the techniques of Charles Hawthorne’s
Cape Cod School of Painting. This is a plein air class. We’ll
paint outdoors unless the weather is very, very poor, in which case
we will retreat to the indoors or schedule another day.
There
are nearly as many ways to paint as there are painters. These classes
are all about the Cape Cod School of Impressionism, a style of painting
introduced to Rick first by Ty Hodanish and then Lois Griffel, originally
developed by Charles Hawthorne and Henry Hensche. Each session
will run for eight weeks usually meeting on Saturday mornings from
8:00 until 11:00 and sometimes in the late afternoon to take advantage
of the late day light. Following the teaching of Hensche, the initial
sessions will place a strong emphasis on block studies, exploring
the use of bold color to capture the light effect followed by weekly
plein air excursions in and around Boothbay Harbor.
The
current eight week session began on May 28th. A second session
will be announced in July. Visitors to the Mid-Coast area of Maine
are welcome to join us for individual sessions.
Individual
instruction is also available.
